Shirodhara, which comes from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow), is an Ayurvedic therapy, and one of the steps involved in Panchkarma, which involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead. These liquids depend on the ailment being treated; it can include milk or buttermilk, oil, coconut water or plaint water. This practice is proven effective in promoting sleep, relaxation, and reducing stress levels caused by spikes in adrenaline. Shirodhara stimulates vital points in the head and improves circulation. The use of warm oils also cause vasodilation which increases blood flow and circulation to areas of the head.
